Members of elite club
DPR Korea won the title in 2006 and 2016 while Japan lifted the trophy in 2018, with only three other teams – Germany (3), the United States (3) and Spain (1) having emerged champions before.

Impressive record
DPR Korea have never failed to advance to the knockout stage in their previous appearances- finishing runners-up in 2008 and fourth in 2014 in addition to emerging champions twice and quarter-finalists three times.

On a roll
Japan qualified for the semi-finals in each of their previous three appearances – finishing third in 2016, champions in 2018 and runners-up two years ago.

On a mission
Australia and Korea Republic will strive to make an impact in a tournament that has historically proven tough for both. Korea Republic have failed to match their third place finish of 2010, not advancing from the group stage in their previous two appearances. Australia suffered the same fate in the 2022 edition, after securing a return to the Finals for the first time since 2006.

Debut appearances
With the tournament expanded to 24 teams from 16 previously, Austria, Cameroon, Fiji and Morocco will be making their debuts at Colombia 2024. Of the seven Asian teams to have featured at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, DPR Korea were the last to make their debut – in their title-winning 2006 campaign.

Regulars
Brazil, Germany, Nigeria and the United States have appeared in all previous 10 editions of the tournament. While Germany and the United States are both three-time winners, Brazil’s best achievement is finishing third twice while Nigeria were runners-up in 2012 and 2014. DPR Korea and Japan featured in seven previous editions each.

Germany in charge
Besides winning three titles (2004, 2010, 2014), Germany were runners-up in 2012 and third in 2002 and 2008. The United States emerged champions in 2002, 2008, 2012, were third in 2004 and fourth twice (2006, 2016).

Colombia 2024 format
The top two teams in each of the six groups will qualify for the Round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams.
