Guam defeated Macau 2-1 to top the two-team Group A while Hong Kong, China defeated Chinese Taipei with the same score line to finish as the Group B winners with a perfect record of six points.
Macau 1-2 Guam
Alec Taitague was Guam’s hero as they defeated Macau 2-1 to top Group A of the 2025 EAFF E-1 Football Championship Preliminary on Saturday.
Leon Marcus Morimoto put Guam ahead in the 31st but Lei Cheng Lam pulled Macau level with his effort from the penalty spot.
Taitague, however, stepped up with the winner in the 73rd minute as Guam moved within a match of qualifying for the Finals.
Hong Kong, China 2-1 Chinese Taipei
Matt Orr put Hong Kong, China ahead in the 19th minute but Chinese Taipei roared back to equalise through Yu Yao-hsing.
Both sides traded blows after that in an exciting tie at the Mong Kok Stadium but Tsui Wang Kit settled the tie with his 87th minute goal.
The preliminary final will be played on Tuesday with the winners to advance to the final round which will be hosted by Korea Republic in July, 2025.
